Spine disorders include conditions affecting the vertebrae, intervertebral discs,
nerves and supporting muscles. Common problems such as back pain, neck pain,
disc prolapse and sciatica often develop due to degeneration, poor posture,
repetitive strain or nerve compression.
In Ayurveda, these conditions are primarily related to Vata dosha imbalance,
along with involvement of Asthi dhatu (bone tissue), Majja dhatu (nervous tissue)
and surrounding soft tissues.
Disc Bulge: The disc swells outward and compresses nearby nerve roots.
Disc Degeneration: Loss of disc hydration causing chronic pain.
Spondylosis: Degenerative changes in vertebrae and joints.
Spondylolisthesis: Slippage of one vertebra over another.
In Ayurvedic diagnosing, naming the disease alone is not enough.
The physician evaluates dosha imbalance, dhatu involvement,
chronicity, constitution and associated conditions.
Treatment is highly individualised and may include Shamana,
Shodhana and Brimhana therapies along with internal medicines,
external procedures and lifestyle correction.
